P N V Nair, the Editor
of Ingredients South Asia, is the
former Editor of Deccan Chronicle.
Nair was instrumental in reviving
the paper and making it the largest
circulated English daily in Andhra
Pradesh. Deccan Chronicle is one
of the success stories in print
media in recent times.
After leaving Deccan
Chronicle, Nair became the Editor
of Free Press, Indore, and Lokmat
Times, Nagpur. In April 2000, he
joined a website, touchindia.com,
a portal on India’s Art &
Culture. He had written hundreds
of articles for the website on various
subjects related to India’s
past and present glories.
A man known for aggressive
and investigative journalism, Nair
started his career in the year 1966
in Free Press Journal, Bombay. He
then moved over to Indian Express
in 1967 and rose to the position
of News Editor. Later he was associated
with the successful launching of
three newspapers in Bombay –
Mid-Day as News Editor in 1979,
The Daily as Editor in 1981 and
the Indian Post as Deputy Editor
with Nihal Singh as Editor. During
his long career in journalism, Nair
had worked with well-known Editors
like Frank Moraes, S Moolgaokar,
V K Narasimhan, B G Varghese, Arun
Shourie, R K Karanjia and Nihal
Singh. Nair had been inspired by
two doyens of Indian journalism,
the late Ram Nath Goenka of Indian
Express and Russy Karanjia of Blitz
publications.
